What is a hysterectomy?
Hysterectomy, which is one of the most common gynecological operations, is the removal of the uterus, which is often accompanied by the removal of the ovaries and fallopian tubes.
What differentiates this particular method from a classic surgery?
Until today, this operation was performed using the classic method, that is, the open operation with an incision in the abdomen. Laparoscopy is the evolution in gynecological surgery. In laparoscopy, the operation is performed through small incisions (5-10 mm) in the abdomen and is the most modern surgical technique in gynecology (minimally invasive surgery). The laparoscopic tools enter through the small incisions inside the abdomen and are an extension of the surgeon’s hands, while the entire operation is projected on a screen and recorded digitally.
What are the advantages of the method?
- Great detail resulting in greater precision in manipulations, due to the magnification provided by the camera, with less tissue injury
- Immediate mobilization (and feeding) of the patient on the day of surgery and discharge from the clinic the next day
- Minimal postoperative pain and stress
- Less complications related to healing, since there is no incision
- Instant return to daily activities
- Minimum chance of abdominal adhesions causing long-term complications
The above advantages clearly outweigh, so is it considered a more expensive method?
The cost is exactly the same as the classic method, in contrast to the advantages which are clearly more.
The laparoscopic removal of the uterus is the most modern method in gynecological surgery and is an operation performed by a specialized team of Gynecologist – General Surgeon – Anesthetist and trained nursing staff of the operating room. It is done in a properly organized clinic, which has the necessary equipment. The realization of such operations has been a reality for some time in our city, with very good results.
