Modern chemotherapy, hormone therapy, biological therapy and immunotherapy methods are used for this purpose. At the same time, specific tests are performed to investigate the molecular and genetic basis of the disease, if necessary.
Chemotherapy is performed in one-day or long-stay wards. Drugs are prepared by qualified personnel under complete sterilization, with absolute safety standards. The Department can support patients at every stage of their disease. At the same time, it offers support to the patient’s relatives and genetic counselling, if needed.
It collaborates with cancer research teams in Greece and abroad for the conduct of innovative research studies. The scientific team is complemented by a psychologist, physiotherapist and dietician, so that the patient and his/her family receive the best medical care close to home. The Oncology Council and the Oncology Counselling Clinic operate within the Department.
